Join us for a fascinating journey into the world of globemaking with Peter Bellerby & uncover the intriguing story behind this ancient craft. You will feel as if you are stepping in to the Globemakers studio as makers and painters will be handcrafting and painting globes during the talk.

In conversation with Peter Bellerby: A rare glimpse inside the London studio of Bellerby & Co Globemakers with local Spitalfields resident and founder Peter Bellerby and a cast of traditional makers, fine artists and craftspeople.

We will meet some of his team who will be casting, painting and goring whilst we learn more about the craft of making bespoke globes. We will hear about the wonderful journey Peter has been on since 2008 when he set out to find a suitable model for his father’s 80th birthday – and what happened when he decided instead to make the gift himself.

Peter will be in discussion with Basil Comely, former print journalist, BBC Vision Studio Head for Arts, and fellow Spitalfields local.

Peters book, ‘The Globemakers. The Curious Story of an Ancient Craft‘ will be available for purchase at the venue.

The talk starts at 6.30pm and will finish by 8.00pm, allowing for questions and debate.
The venue will open at 6.00pm with refreshments available from that time. Come early to have a drink, and to interact with the globes, the artists and the locals. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
The venue will remain open til 9.00pm to allow the local community and visitors to the area to further socialise after the event.
Please note that you are requested not to bring large bags with you to the talks at the venue. Small purses are fine.
Any questions please let us know!

This event raises funds for the Spitalfields Society.
Spitalfields Society is a voluntary local amenity group dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the London neighbourhood of Spitalfields. This includes architectural, social and cultural issues. The Society is representative of a large number of the local community and encompasses a wide range of different interests and backgrounds, both residential and commercial.
The Spitalfields Society was formed as an amenity society by local residents in 1992 and ever since its foundation the society has devoted itself to improving Spitalfields as a place to live, work and visit. We hope it continues to do so for many years to come.
