Woodworking Workshop | Bespoke Globe Base

All of our wood and metal bases are made bespoke to order. Our photos tend to focus on the making and painting of the globes, probably because the studio upstairs is quite serene with big high ceilings and lots of natural light. But alas, we also have a wood-working workshop on site and a big team of talented and highly skilled wood and metal-workers. Why less photos? Well.. it tends to be a little louder and a little colder down there! But we have just added a better source of natural light and thus hope to see more photos documenting this important part of the process as well.

Customers choose the wood, finish to the wood, style of base and everything is hand-turned and hand-finished. We have even design one-off pieces based on a quick doodle of a customer and built up from there.

These photos are taken over two different days spaced a few weeks apart. The base is a Churchill base designed similar to our Wooden Curve. The globe sits and spins on ball bearings allowing 360 degree rotation in all directions by hand. The base is Walnut wood in many pieces all expertly cut and fit together.

Photos thanks to Toby Essex.
