This was a lovely commission by a customer whose husband had recently lost his eye sight. As he does not read braille but she wanted him to enjoy the globe that shows their travels, we developed a technique for doing raised relief detail across the important cities and travel routes.
The raised relief does not impact the overall colouring or artwork at all, it is clear. We have taken photos at angles to catch the light so it can better be seen and then photos of the globe colouring from afar to see the globe as a whole.
The globe style chosen for this was The Livingstone as we recommend a gloss finish and a globe that spins on an axis. We would not recommend raised relief on one of our globes that sits and spins on our ball bearing system. We also added some weight to the base to reduce the risk of it being knocked.
We really loved how this worked out and it was amazing how open the client was to us experimenting and trusted us to create something both her and her husband would enjoy.
