This was a bespoke commission with many specific and unique requests.
The globe is 50cm diameter. The colouring is Regency Magellan – usually we do a colder toned blue ocean paired with Magellan land and this was the first time creating this variation.
The finish is matte – with option of gloss.
The base is a variation of our Brisbane II – designed to hold an antique compass the customer owns. He provided the measurements and we had a mocking up and approval process on the design ahead of hand-crafting it. We were happy to hear when it arrived it did all indeed fit perfectly as planned!
The wood is Walnut with a natural finish to the wood.
The globe also has bespoke cartography and hand drawn and hand painted illustrations. The customer also asked for the borders to be painted darker in the shading colour. Usually our borders are lightly marked and lightly shaded, so again this was fun to see a new way of doing things at the customers request.
He also had a bespoke cartouche above the legend. And you can see detail here of his hand engraved message around the Brass meridian that circles the globe. The meridian can be moved to allow the globe to spin from all directions.
