What do you get your father for his 80th birthday? Peter Bellerby decided on a globe.
Video by The Times – Luxury. He liked the idea of a piece of art that you can interact with. But although he searched far and wide for a company making good-quality globes that were functional, beautiful and personalised, he could not find what he sought. So, he set about making the globe himself — assuming it would take him a few months and cost a couple thousand pounds. Little did he know that it would actually turn into a two-year project costing nearly £200,000. It was during this process, in 2008, that he decided to set up Bellerby & Co Globemakers.
