The Cahill Butterfly (left) and Dymaxion Map (right) projections. Which do you prefer?
We lean towards the world according to Cahill…. it is beautiful and there is practically no distortion along the edges of each lobe. The lines of latitude and longitude shrink towards the middle of each lobe. The overall effect is a map that can be scaled to any size, and errors that are easy to calculate and correct.

I recommend using all six cylinders:

The edges are curved, like the butterfly map above.

Your products are truly stunning, and your blog conveys a true love for the craft! Thank you for both.
I’m curious, however: What projections do you use for the inevitable flattening it entails to produce the gores? I’ve read that transverse Mercator is common, but in other places that there are better options;how different is the projection you use from the commonly used ones? This, and other insight into the work of your cartographers, would be an amazingly interesting topic for a blog!
